Microsoft 365 Copilot
Home: Chat, Cowork and Office in Copilot
Home is the new starting point in the Copilot app. Chat and Cowork sit together. You can review recent activity, get suggestions, and continue work where you left off. Work still moves between meetings, documents, email, apps and agents — Home is where you get your bearings.
Chat
Instant and conversational
Quick questions, lookups, first drafts, and keeping you in the loop. Everyday Chat sits on the fixed per-user licence.
Cowork
Work you delegate
You define the task; it runs end to end and returns a completed result — an RFP response, a launch kit, a briefing, a close package. Cowork uses Copilot Credits.
Office in Copilot
Real Word, Excel, PowerPoint
From Home you can draft a brief, model a budget or build a deck as a real, editable file that stays in sync with the Office apps and your team.
Microsoft has said that, coming soon, you will not need to choose a mode by hand: state what you need to accomplish, and Copilot routes the work to Chat, Cowork or Code. Until that is live in your tenant, the skill is still to name the outcome and pick the right surface.
Grounding comes from Microsoft IQ — the business-context layer across your Microsoft stack. Fabric IQ and connections into Dynamics 365 and Power Platform expand what Copilot can use, subject to permissions and rollout.

- Open Copilot at work and notice whether you are in Chat or being offered Cowork
- For a short question or a first draft, stay in Chat
- For a multi-step deliverable you would hand to a colleague, look at Cowork — and check credits and policy first
- When you need a real document your team can edit, use Office in Copilot rather than pasting into a blank file by hand
