Microsoft 365 Copilot
Code: build solutions in plain language
Code moves solution-building beyond professional developers alone. Alongside documents, spreadsheets and decks, people can describe a tracker, dashboard, automation or small app in natural language, and Copilot chooses an approach and builds it.
- Powered by the same underlying technology as GitHub Copilot
- Runs in a sandboxed environment
- Can be hosted inside your company’s Microsoft 365 tenant with Copilot Managed Runtime (preview from 25 September 2026)
- Grounded with Microsoft IQ; plugins sync; IT can manage a plugin registry
- Software developers continue to use standalone GitHub Copilot for day-to-day engineering, with more connectivity into the Copilot platform
Billing for Code is on Copilot Credits (usage-based). Microsoft stated Code would roll out to Frontier around the end of September 2026, with broader availability in the following weeks, and preview for Microsoft 365 Premium and Pro later in the year. Confirm what your tenant has.

GitHub Copilot remains the product professional developers use in their tools. Code in the Copilot app is the capability aimed at broader solution building inside Microsoft 365. Same underlying technology family; different audience and hosting path.
- Name a recurring job that today lives in a spreadsheet nobody trusts
- Ask whether building a small tracker or dashboard would beat another file copy
- Check with IT whether Managed Runtime, plugins and credit policy are on before you invent something shadow
