For teachers and helpers
This page is for library staff, Digital Champions, union learning reps, Citizens Advice volunteers and anyone who runs a drop-in. You reach people that a website never will.
What to print, for which situation
| Somebody arrives with | Print this |
|---|---|
| A message they think might be a scam | Tell a real message from a fake one |
| Worry about AI at work, or a new tool switched on without training | Is it safe to put this in? |
| “I have never used one of those and I do not want to look stupid” | Ask it something daft |
| Forty minutes and a group | The Have a go bundle |
Things worth knowing
Nobody needs an account for anything here. No email address is asked for anywhere, including for the cards. If a person you are helping is not online yet, the card works on its own — that is why it exists.
The web addresses are short enough to read out loud and write on a scrap of paper. If one is not, tell me and I will shorten it.
The cards are Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0. Copy them, as many as you like, for as long as you like. You do not need to ask.
Every lesson works on a phone. Where a task genuinely needs a computer, the lesson says so in “What you need”, before somebody reads the whole thing and wastes their time.
What this site cannot do
It is not in Welsh, and it will not be. Learn My Way is, and it is free.
It has no text-to-speech yet.
Adults over 65 say they would rather ask a person than teach themselves. So for a lot of the people you help, you are the answer and this site is not. My job is to arm you, not to replace you. Sourced on the evidence page.
If something is wrong
Tell me. hello@howtobedigital.com. A person reads it, corrections get made, and they get noted on the page.
