howtobedigital teaches working adults in the UK the digital and AI skills nobody taught them.
It is small on purpose. It does not compete on breadth with Learn My Way, which has more than a hundred topics and around 8,000 delivery hubs behind it, and it does not compete on reach with the government AI Skills Boost programme, which is targeting 10 million workers by 2030. It competes on the quality of a single lesson.

Everything an individual touches is free, permanently. Employers, councils, housing associations, charities and funded-training providers pay for team programmes. That is what funds the free side.
- Free means free. No account, no email wall, no paywall, ever, on any lesson.
- One lesson, one outcome, stated in the first line.
- Every lesson says who should skip it.
- Times are measured with a stopwatch rather than estimated.
- Every lesson ends with one real task on your own machine, today.
- Every statistic carries a named source. Unsourceable figures get cut and listed.
- Nothing is sold on a lesson page.
- It works without JavaScript, on a five-year-old phone, on a slow connection.
- Nothing here measures you. No scores, no streaks, no completion percentages.
It is not in Welsh. Learn My Way is, and that is a real gap this does not fill.
It has no text-to-speech yet. For some of the people it is written for, that is not a nicety.
It is a website, and adults over 65 say they would rather ask a person. The honest answer is that this is not the whole solution for that group — a Digital Champion at a drop-in is, and the job here is to give them something to hand over.
Everything free here is asynchronous. Nobody appears in a room unless somebody is paying.
