Microsoft rebuilt Copilot around Home, Code and Autopilot
If you read nothing else
The Copilot app now centres on Home (Chat + Cowork + Office in Copilot), Code (natural-language solution building), and Autopilot (a persistent agent, formerly Scout). Everyday AI stays on a fixed licence; agentic work uses Copilot Credits and stays off until an admin sets spending policy.
What changed. On 25 September 2026 Microsoft announced the new Copilot with Home, Code and Autopilot, Copilot Managed Runtime in preview, FinOps for AI controls, and a clearer split between fixed per-user licensing and usage-based Copilot Credits for Cowork, Code, Autopilot and frontier models.
Does it matter to you?Yes, if your workplace uses Microsoft 365 Copilot
What to do. Read which surfaces you personally have. Do not assume Code or Autopilot are on. Before you delegate real work, ask whether usage-based spend is enabled. Start with the free lessons on this site if you want a guided pass.
Microsoft · Introducing the new Copilot with Home, Code and Autopilot · 25 September 2026
What changed. Home and Code were described as rolling out through the Frontier programme in the coming weeks from announcement; Autopilot was expanding to private preview at the end of September 2026. Availability in your tenant may lag the blog.
Does it matter to you?Only if you are chasing a feature that is not there yet
What to do. Inventory what you can open today. Treat missing capabilities as a licence or rollout fact, not as something you failed to find.
- Partner price packs and credit calculators that are not from Microsoft — rates move; use primary sources.
- Hot takes that collapse Chat, Cowork, Code and Autopilot into one “just use Copilot” tip.
