# Find your starting point

Twelve statements about your circumstances, not a test. Tick the one that is
true for you today. You get the area to start with and the next three lessons,
in order, with the time each one takes.

Nothing is sent and nothing is stored. The result lives in the page's web
address, so you can bookmark it or close the tab and lose it.

The check runs in the browser and needs JavaScript. Nothing else on this site
does. If you would rather not turn it on, start at [all lessons](/learn/) or
take one of the three [paths](/paths/).

## The four areas

- **Everyday digital** — finding a file, sharing a document, passwords.
- **AI Fundamentals** — what these tools are, how to ask, how to check what comes back.
- **Copilot and Agents** — what your employer bought, what it can see, what an agent is.
- **Safety and judgement** — a message that wants something urgently, what is safe to paste in, what your organisation's rules actually say.

Each area is scored 0 to 3, matching the lesson levels used across the site.
The lowest area is where you start. Two more questions — how much time you have
in a week, and whether you can practise on your own device — change what is
suggested, not how you are described.

## For a team

The same page runs a second check, six questions about an organisation rather
than a person, and returns one of five bands: Unaware, Aware, Trying, Embedded,
Leading. The lowest answer pulls the band down, because an organisation is only
as far on as the person who cannot take part.

It is a conversation starter, not a score to report upwards. See
[for organisations](/organisations/) for what a programme includes and costs.

Take the check at [howtobedigital.com/start/](/start/).
