A real company stands behind this site, AI helps write the first drafts to keep it free, and a person checks everything before it is published.

## Why AI is used, and what it is and is not allowed to do

Producing lessons and explainers the normal way costs more than a small company giving the content away for free can sustain alone. AI is used to draft faster, so the free side of this site can stay free, without charging individuals or watering down a lesson to sell something instead.

AI may draft: outlines, first passes, alternative phrasings, summarising a source, checking readability. AI may not decide: what is taught, what is cut, the time estimate, whether a claim is true, or whether a step actually works. Every step in every published lesson is carried out on a real machine by a person who watches what happens, and nothing is auto-published. Full declaration: /method/how-this-is-made/

## Cookies and tracking

One analytics script: Google Analytics in its cookieless mode. Consent is denied by default and never granted, so no cookie is set, nothing identifies you, and there is no cookie banner. No other third-party scripts. Full detail: /privacy/

## Data protection

The only personal data collected directly is what a reader types into an email to hello@howtobedigital.com. Page loads also send one request to Google's analytics service, which produces anonymous page counts, sets no cookie, and (Google states) does not log or store IP addresses. Digital Skill Works Ltd is the data controller for that correspondence. Whether this requires entry on the ICO's register of fee payers has not yet been formally checked — open item, listed rather than left unsaid.
