# Getting unstuck

Problem solving: what to do when the thing does not work, and knowing what you do not know.

7 screens, about three minutes. Pictures, almost no words.

## Everybody gets stuck.

*Picture: One large box labelled it is not working.*

The difference is what happens next.

## There is an order.

*Picture: Four boxes in a row: turn it off and on, look at the message, search the message, ask somebody. The first is amber.*

Most problems stop at step one or two.

## The message is not noise.

*Picture: A cut-away box labelled the error message with three boxes inside: what happened, where, and a number.*

It is somebody telling you exactly what went wrong.

## Sometimes nothing is broken.

*Picture: Two boxes side by side, one labelled what I need and one labelled what exists, with a line between them.*

You just have not met the thing that does it yet.

## Knowing the gap is a skill.

*Picture: A dashed frame labelled what I can do, with a green box just outside it labelled the next thing.*

It is the last of the twenty-one, and the one that moves you.

## Do today

Write down one thing you cannot do yet that would make your week easier.
